gecko eggs

in the shed
i found them nestled back in amongst
the paint tarps all 15 of them
translucent pink to opal white
each holding a life burgeoning
forth cells multiplying like mad
in a race to become baby geckos
before the mice find them
ofcourse maizie the cat is onto the mice
so they step lightly in the shed
and ofcourse maizie the cat isn't
around when the raccoons are scouting
the backyard

so
there you go
the wonderful food chain of life

i put the gecko eggs
in a bowl swaddled in
an old pillow case
and wait
